CASE STUDIES

SeSys ATEX Cameras used in Bristol Storm Chamber

Wessex Water has deployed a specialist camera to help monitor the commissioning and operation at one of its largest sewage pumping stations. In March 2010, the company began building a new pumping station at Ashton Avenue near the Cumberland basin in Bristol.

The facility is used for storm pumping in the event of heavy rains and includes a new 400m2 screening chamber that removes debris from the flow. The screens can handle some 8,000l/s of storm water, however, the screening chamber sits in an enclosed water screening building, which David Mining, Wessex’s ICA technical & development manager, describes as an extremely “unpleasant environment”.

To enhance health and safety and keep staff out of the chamber as much as possible, Wessex Water has worked with German software company Mobotix and its Hampshire-based partner, security camera specialist SeSys. SeSys has deployed a Mobotix camera, modified to meet ATEX standards for explosive atmospheres, to monitor the pumps.

Innovative Water Treatment Plant project captured with SeSys Solution

A SeSys Camera solution has been selected to record the construction of £74 million upgrade of a United Utilities waste water treatment works.

The plant, which is one of the UK's largest, will be able to generate increased electricity from biogas generated by the new process. To document this process Black & Veatch, the Principle Contractor, selected SeSys to provide a wireless network and multiple high resolution cameras linked to a recording and monitoring solution.

The camera system allows staff to view the site remotely, reducing United Utilities carbon footprint by reducing journeys to site. The cameras will also create a detailed record of the two year construction project to be retained for future reference as a time lapse video.

SeSys and Southern Water Visual Assurance System

Problem: Southern Water supplies fresh, quality drinking water to households across Sussex, Kent, Hampshire and the Isle of Wight.  The company inspects the quality of its drinking water every week at locations across its regions via a manual sampling process that includes a critical sequence of actions to ensure that the sample reaches the highest standards.

Solution: To ensure that the samples are properly carried out and verifiable, Southern Water began a project to install a high resolution Digital CCTV system which alerts its main control centre and records the entire sampling process.
